Countrymen Innovations
sent us the “Jake Intimidator” and the “2
Timer Box Call” to do a review.
I have done reviews of other decoys before but nothing like
this. With most decoys
you set them up, and there is no way to adjust the decoy as the
turkey comes into the setup.
With the Jake Intimidator the decoy is laying on its back
looking at the sky.
When needed the hunter pulls on a string and the decoy pops up.
This decoy is very well made and is easy to set up. It takes a little longer to set up than a standard decoy. For me it took about three to four minutes to set it up. The hardest part was setting up the string so it wasn’t tangled up in ground litter.
I
used it this year and I had two turkeys come into the decoy.
The first one that came in was not alone.
He and his partner were more than a match for the Jake.
He wanted to show the decoy who was boss. In a different
situation the Tom was with some hens.
When I pulled the string to stand up the decoy, the hens
didn’t like it and they went away.
The Toms followed the hens.
I was able to call the hens back but the Tom would not come
in for a shot.
There may be times when you are hunting a turkey that is intimidated by the decoy. In these situations you simply don’t stand it up. At other times standing up and letting down the decoy will allow you to simulate the movement of a real turkey.
The decoy can be easily packed in a day pack. The string has to be pulled about three feet to stand up the decoy. This decoy is something that I will be using next year.
2
Timer Box Call is a box call that has two paddles on either end of
the call. This is great
for bow hunters who are trying to limit the amount of gear that they
are hauling. Changing
the tone is easily done by moving the toning block in the call.
The toning block is made to slide back and forth inside the
call but cannot fall out.
This can prevent you from losing it.
This
call has two paddles, one on the top and one on the bottom.
One is a standard box call top
and the other is a water
proof one. I have
always liked the idea of a water proof box call.
This allows you to call when the weather turns on you.
This call is easy to use and sounds great. The tone adjusting is easy and fast to use.
Happy Hunting.
